Tips for Making Your Holiday Party a Success

Tips for Making Your Holiday Party a Success | 97 Switch

If you’re planning a holiday party, it’s all about the little details to brighten the space and get everyone in the holiday spirit. However, what’s needed most of all? Time management! Since the holidays are such a hectic and competitive time in terms of holiday party planning—and attending—it’s super important to get a head start…like now.

Really though, it’s not too early to start planning your festivities in September and October to get ready for Thanksgiving through New Year’s, when the madness commences. Here’s a handy guide to making sure your holiday party is a flawless success with the least amount of stress possible.

Send Out Invites ASAP

Since competition is high, send out save the dates or email invites in advance to secure your guest list. The earlier the better—you won’t seem desperate, we promise! You’ll need to figure out your date and venue, of course, but you can handle all the little details, like entertainment, floral arrangements, catering, and other aspects afterwards.

Provide Holiday Entertainment

This isn’t just a party—it’s a holiday party—so there should be entertainment that corresponds to this season’s festivities, whether it be during Christmas time, New Year’s, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, or just a general sense of fun holiday spirit. That means, look for interesting ways to entertain the crowd that radiates holiday cheer. You might consider hiring a Santa, creating a great holiday themed playlist for the DJ, hiring a band or chorus group to sing holiday songs, or even playing games based on holiday trivia.

Make the Menu Festive

Think of your favorite holiday foods—green bean casserole, potato latkes with applesauce, and peppermint bark for dessert. Maybe even hot toddies and Bailey’s Irish coffee? Integrate these festive bites and drinks into the event by adding them as menu items, whether it be a sit-down meal, a buffet with fun stations, or simply passed apps. (The latkes with dipping sauce would be a great app idea!)

Leave Guests with Goodie Bags

The holidays are about spreading the wealth and joy, giving back to others, and showing gratitude. So, show appreciation for all the people in your life by sending them home with goodie bags filled with treats, mementos, and other little tokens that’ll go a long way throughout the coming year. For instance, you can hand out personalized holiday cookies with their names written as icing or you can set up a photo booth where guests can take shots throughout the night and then paste them in mini scrapbooks as a gift. Use your imagination with your budget in mind—and don’t forget the festive wrapping paper and bags!
