While we may miss summer’s gorgeous sunshine and hot weather, once we realize that it’s time for fall spices and cozy cocktails, that disappointment quickly turns to excitement.
Fall is the perfect season for fun, interesting cocktails that really add a kick to whatever you’re eating, and there’s something for every type of palate—whether it’s wine, beer, or special liquors. You can also make some terrific boozy punches and large format drinks for group events.
Pumpkin Spice Everything
Pumpkin spice anything and everything, as there’s no denying that fall’s signature flavor is pumpkin spice. The re-launch of pumpkin spice lattes at Starbucks has practically become a holiday!
It’s easy to feature limited edition pumpkin spice liquor or seasonal beer at the bar to serve guests, or you can get more creative and use pumpkin spice flavoring in warm drinks that are a real party pleaser, like a spiked hot chocolate or a pumpkin bourbon cocktail. It adds that little extra kick. For a pumpkin spice Bailey’s drink, be sure to add a dollop of whipped cream on top for some extra indulgence.
These can go well with pumpkin pie or bread, cheesy pastas, red meat, like brisket or short rib, and sweet potatoes—all delicious fall treats.
There’s a reason for Oktoberfest—seasonal fall beers are nice and crisp, and there are so many to choose from. There are tons of specialty pumpkin beers, like Harpoon Imperial Pumpkin and Breckenridge Brewery Nitro Pumpkin Spice Latte Stout, among others. Set up a fall beer station for guests where they can sample a few different ones at ease and have access to a wide variety.
Yet if you’re worried not all your guests will like pumpkin—no problem. Serve a few others, like Oktoberfest Märzen Lager by Left Hand Brewing Co., Mop Water by Cape May Brewing Co., or Autumn Maple by The Bruery, for starters.
Spiced Hot Drinks
Cider, mulled wine, hot toddies—there are so many delicious warming beverages that integrate the best fall spices and flavors into the cup and can complement several types of alcohols.
Plus, they can be made in bulk, serving tons of people at once. Whip up a delicious apple cider with spices or make a large format mulled wine, using red wine and fall spices, like cardamom or nutmeg for a really festive, fancy cocktail.
Apple Cinnamon Infused Drinks
Spiked apple cider, anyone? Apple and cinnamon both taste great with bourbon or rum as an alcohol base, or you can whip up an apple cider that is spiked with bourbon and serve either hot or cold, depending on the occasion. Add in cloves, nutmeg, and allspice to really play up those fall seasonings.
You can even serve this drink in a carved apple as a mug or fill into a pumpkin with some funky straws that’ll serve 2-4 people at the party.
